The central idea of my concentration is the unfiltered representation of and appreciation for the strong and unique women in my life. It began as simply my appreciation for my friends and eventually evolved into more than that. For a while, I felt my concentration was too simple or not profound; I later came to the realization, however, that I could use my art to explore the beauty of each person’s personality and to emphasize the value of authentic and extraordinary women I encounter every day. I experimented with many different mediums, such as fabric, encaustic, palimpsest, and string, to not only expand my artistic abilities but to accentuate the exceptional qualities of each of my friends. I am close to so many extraordinarily supportive and genuine girls who have worked to ensure my self-confidence and well-being. Being surrounded by so many exceptional young women, I understand the importance of eradicating the toxic societal pressures and beauty expectations placed on girls. Therefore, my goal is to portray the women I admire in a manner that celebrates their overall beauty and uniqueness without complying to typical physical standards.
